Personal Learning Environments in Music Education
Dr George Hess is Associate Professor of Music Technology at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, where he teaches technology, improvisation and professional development. Prior to coming to Singapore, he taught jazz, theory and technology at Central Michigan University (CMU) for ten years. He has published papers on music technology pedagogy in international and national journals and presents clinics and workshops throughout the world. He has previously held positions at Alabama State University and the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr Hess is a member of the international advisory board for the Technology for Music Education (TI:ME) for which he is also a certified instructor. For five years, he chaired the technology track for the International Association of Jazz Education (IAJE). An active jazz guitarist, he has performed with Kevin Mahogany, Ryo Kawasaki, Jim Nabors, Bob Mintzer and the Lawrence Welk All-Stars among others and plays regularly in Singapore.
